WWII US ARMY AIR FORCE/NAVY PYROTECHNIC AN-M8 FLARE GUN SERIAL NUMBER ON STRAP. This was adopted by the U.S. Army Air Forces and the U.S. Navy in July 1942. The serial number on the strap is E-16544. I can’t be 100% sure of the serial number it is hard for me to read. The AN-M8 is a double-action, single pistol used for projecting flares or signaling between troops, from ground troops to aircraft, from aircraft to aircraft, US Navy for signaling, and from aircraft to ground troops. The pistol's frame is parkersized with most of the finish intact and original. The rubber grips are a hard checkered design. The end of the strap at the back is the letter”P” and also a double flag mark, but I can’t determine what the emblem is for sure. The pistol measures 8.5 x 6 inches. The barrel of the gun is stenciled “414”, I think this may have been for the US Navy but I don't know.. The flare pistol was used to fire a 1.5”diameter flare. I have a box of 12 flares that are cracked and used for collector’s only. This sale does not include the flares. Please look closely at the pictures as they are part of the description. This will be shipped in a small box. NO INTERNATIONAL SALES.
